At Ohura School, learning is grounded in who we are — as a school, as a community, and as people.
We’re proud to be a small rural school with a big heart, where every child is seen, every voice matters, and our values guide the way we live and learn together.
We don’t just talk about values — we live them. They shape how we treat each other, how we learn, and how we grow.
Whanaungatanga
It’s in our nature to build strong, respectful relationships and nurture a sense of belonging.
From the moment you step into Ohura School, you’re part of the whānau. We know that connection comes first and everything else follows.
Manaakitanga
It’s in our nature to care for ourselves, others, and all living things.
Whether it’s helping a friend, looking after our school garden, or showing kindness to a neighbour, care and responsibility are part of everyday life here.
Aroha
It’s in our nature to show love, kindness, and compassion in all that we do.
We create a learning environment filled with warmth, patience, and respect, where tamariki feel safe to be themselves and take risks in their learning.
Whakapono
It’s in our nature to believe, have faith, listen, and work together with patience and perseverance. We will succeed.
We encourage our students to back themselves, to trust the process, and to know that learning takes time but together, we’ll get there.
House of Science:
At our school, we believe that science should be exciting, hands-on, and full of wonder, and that’s exactly what the House of Science brings to our classrooms!
Are you curious, creative, and love inspiring young minds? Come volunteer at the House of Science and help bring the wonders of science to life for our students!
Good in the Hood is our way of teaching tamariki that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference, especially for those doing it tough.
Through this initiative, our students look for ways to support people in our community who are less fortunate. Whether that’s baking, donating, helping out, or simply showing up with aroha.
At Ohura School, being “Good n the Hood” means looking out for others — and lifting each other up.
